BEGINNERS CLASS DESCRIPTION

The aim of this class is to provide students with an introduction to the basics of ‘the art of beautiful writing’.

Practical advice will be given on materials and equipment, lettering techniques and applied calligraphy. Through clear and detailed instruction, students will be encouraged to develop a personal style and shown how to apply a new found skill to a variety of projects.

Practical advice will be supported by comprehensive notes. In one-to-one demonstrations, you will be given guidance in areas of personal difficulty. By the end of the term you will have learned the basic techniques of an absorbing and relaxing skill.

Materials to be purchased: a calligraphy fountain pen (a MANUSCRIPT pen with B3 or B4 nib is ideal). If you are left-handed, you should purchase the same pen but with an ‘oblique’ nib.
